"Jaws, Aliens, and Predator with a werewolf twist" -critic
Since Jake proclaimed the zombie guru title, I'll take the werewolf guru title. If you've seen the 7 Howling movies, American Werewolf in Paris, and the Ginger Snaps series then you'll probably know that werewolf movies are sub-par when compared with the masterpiece known as American Werewolf in London. Well, one low-budget British movie is, in my opinion, the BEST werewolf movie since "London."
Dog Soldiers is the story of a group of soldiers on a training mission deep in the Scottish forests. After finding a spec. ops. camp torn to pieces and only one survivor, the soldiers are attacked by "huge fucking howling things." The soldiers soon find an abandoned house to hole up for the night, or at least, try to.
What makes the movie so good? First, no CGI. They only use elaborate costumes with animatronic heads. Second, great character interaction (think Jaws). Third, storyline is a first for werewolf movies. And lastly, the jokes played by the director (like Lt. Bruce Campbell or random quotes from Aliens). I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good, well-written horror movie.
10/10
