Awesome.
What little faith I had left in Lucas to make this trilogy worth the astronomical expenses, it just got multiplied ten fold. That is to say, this movie totally and completly blew me away. I dare say I was almost looking for something to critisize, just so I could present a accurate and unbiased review. But lets face it, its hard to be unbiased on a universe you've grown to love.
But I'm going to try and start from the top.
As far as dialogue goes, lets face it guys, Lucas is barely art school material. Read any of the romantic scenes on paper to see what I mean. But his skill isn't in dialogue, and we know that by now, so I can easily overlook it.
The fight scenes. Holy crap. Thats all i have to say. The battle between Anakin and Dooku is so similar to that of Vader and Luke in Jedi, its scary. Palpatine versus the jedi is so quick, its almost a blink, but damn if it doesn't show off how much of a badass he is. And the emporer versus Yoda is so beserk, with him laughing and hurling those senate pods, its exactly everything I wanted it to be.
Oh yeah, and Padme gives birth or something. But there was a lot of fighting too.
And another thing, this is the first time in Star Wars history that I've wanted to look away in FEAR. When 'Order 66' goes out, and the first clone troopers cut down the first jedi...I almost couldn't watch. I almost cried, for crying out loud. It was terrible to see the Jedi get shot without even having time to fight back.
Speaking of terrible, the scene with Anakin and the younglings...chilling. Absolutly fucking chilling. I actually sat up in my seat, mouth open, thinking, god no, don't let him do that.
The music blasted me with a totally enjoyable assult. The nice touch of 'duel' at the end was great, as has been said here before. Other than that it was pretty much standard Star Wars fare, which is to saw awesome.
So the ultimate badass of the movie has got to be Palpatine. From subverting Anakin to going beserk on Yoda, laughing and growling, he was a total ball to watch. Really makes you appreciate just how evil he is.
And thats what this movie does best, it makes you appreciate just how everyone got to be where they were. Darth Vader used to be just a big scary guy in a mask with a breathing problem. Yeah, he killed Obi-Wan, so we knows hes a bad guy. But now that we know the true story behind Anakin, I'm going to watch the original trilogy in an entirely different light. And thats a good thing.
Congradulations Lucas, you did it again.
10/10
